Business Development Director - Renewables

Work Location: Beijing/Shanghai, China

Reporting To: China BD Head, ACWA Power China

Job Overview

The Senior Business Development role will be responsible for driving ACWA Power’s growth in the renewable energy sector within China. The role requires a strong focus on building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, developing strategies for market entry, and leading business development initiatives. A background in State Grid is essential, as the candidate will leverage this experience to navigate regulatory environments and establish strategic partnerships.

Job Responsibilities

  • Market Strategy: Develop and implement the renewable energy business strategy for China, particularly in wind, solar, and hydrogen projects. This includes identifying market opportunities, evaluating potential projects, and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with public and private sector stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, and local partners. Leverage prior experience with State Grid to facilitate approvals and partnerships.
  • Project Pipeline Development: Identify and assess renewable energy projects at different stages of development. Aim to build a project pipeline to meet the company’s long-term capacity goals.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in power grid industry , with at least 3 years in a business development role in renewable energy industry.
  • Essential: Experience working with or for State Grid (or China South Grid), with a strong understanding of China’s power grid infrastructure and regulatory framework.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related fields; advanced degree (MBA or related) is a plus.

Senior Project Finance Manager

We are seeking an experienced Project Finance Senior Manager with extensive domestic financing experience in the renewable energy industry to support ACWA's domestic investment and project financing in China.

Responsibilities

  • Lead non-resource/limited recourse project financing for ACWA Power’s domestic renewable, green fuel and desalination investments.

  • Support management of project & operation accounting and reporting functions to meet the company's operating and strategic business targets.

Insurance Manager

Job Overview

Responsible for managing all General insurance issues related to renewable power projects, Seawater Desalination Project and any other ACWA Power business in China.

Review of project contracts and agreement from insurance. Review of insurance policy wording to ensure proper risks & insurance mitigation, terms and conditions. The manager will be accountable for interfacing with insurance companies and brokers to address all insurance-related concerns, including claims processing.

Their primary objective will be to safeguard ACWA Power's interests throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that our assets are adequate and appropriately insured and risk posture is appropriately managed.

Responsibilities

  • Project Contracts Review: Ensure insurance requirement of the project contracts are available at a commercial affordable price.
  • Insurance Management: Oversee all general insurance affairs for ACWA Power's renewable energy projects, Seawater Desalination Project, and other operations within China.

M&A Director

Job Overview

Responsible for transaction origination and execution, originating acquisition opportunities, as well as supervising the financial modelling, leading fund-raising transactions, overseeing deal execution (structuring, due diligence, risk analysis), managing internal approvals and coordination of work-streams for M&A transactions, for re-financing (asset monetisation/ capital recycling) transactions, and for project financing transactions.

Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities:

  • The candidate works within the team in charge for Mergers and Acquisitions, refinancings, monetisations, and in some cases development projects.
  • Originate, support and manage M&A transactions including commercial structuring and execution.
  • Supervise and review the building, auditing and maintenance of comprehensive financial models for large infrastructure projects (for acquisitions, refinancing, asset divestments and stake sales, and for project financings).
  • Conduct and supervise risk analysis and secure internal approvals and coordination of work-streams for Mergers and Acquisitions transactions.
  • Conduct and supervise financial and risk analysis relating to M&A transactions.

  • Track deals in the market to get latest information on the valuations, deal structures and prominent players.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree Finance, Accounting, Economics, Maths, Engineering; Preference for higher degrees such as Masters in the above mentioned areas, and/or MBA, CA, CFA.

Minimum Experience:

  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in project finance and/or M&A in banks or other financial institutions, financial or transaction advisory firms, international corporates or developers focused on the power (including renewables)/water/infrastructure industries.
  • Thorough sector knowledge and experience in infrastructure/energy/renewables in China.

To provide comprehensive legal and risk management support for the company's key financial transactions and operations. GL Accounting:

  • Review the month-end closing that is performed by 3rd party service provider to ensure the financial statements are accurately reported in a timely manner.

  • Manual adjustment from China GAAP to IFRS.
  • Lead the process to back charge the costs to affiliated companies.

Financial Analysis:

  • Analyze the actual spending data and compare the actual spending month by month, quarter by quarter, year by year. 
  • Prepare data for budgeting purpose.

Expense Management:

  • Responsible for employee expenses and vendor payment check and validation, to ensure all original supporting documents are submitted, archived, and comply with company’s expense reimbursement/vendor payment policies and regulatory requirements.

Fixed Assets Management:

Manager – BESS BDTS

Reporting To: Head of BESS - BDTS


Responsibilities

Risk & Opportunity Analysis:

  • Act as interface point between CIO organization and other related organizations in relation to business development matters of the Bid in order to improve the Bid proposal.
  • Apply accurate risk & opportunity mapping for each project in order to understand the risk & opportunity profile and define proper risk mitigation with regards to commercial aspects by working closely with Technical Service team on technical aspect.  
  • It is as essential to understand the opportunities and apply them for the benefit of the bid competitiveness.
  • Activities include business development related review of  RFQ, RFP risk matrix, dispatch analysis, etc.
  • Provide assistance to BD and APF as requested by the Project leader for business development related activities.
  • Provide assistance to BD on EPC structuring of BESS projects on techno-commercial aspect.
  • Assist in business development process in providing the appropriate solution.
  • Assist in performing due diligences on brown field projects or assets acquisitions for business development activities.

Contract Management:

BESS  Techno-Commercial Manager needs to review and amend if required project documents working closely with CTO office and other departments such as:


  • PPA Power purchase agreement
  • LLS (Land lease Agreement)
  • ICA (Interconnection Agreement{s)
  • EPC Term sheet
  • EPC Contract
  • O&M Term sheet
  • O&M Contract

Assisting the Bid Process:

As BESS Techno-Commercial Manager, he will provide following tasks during the bid process as part of the project team (up till formal bid issue)


  • Optimisation of technical configuration.
  • Clarification for RFP.
  • Asist in preparing Bid Assumption book by taking proper input from CTO office.
  • Assist in appointing Advisors.
  • Assist in approaching Sub contractor and supplier Assist in preparing Scope split document from a commercial perspective.
  • O&M budget review.
  • Review of Performances and guarantees sections going into the bid.
  • Review of Testing and commissioning and early operation performance impact Review of Deviations/clarification in bid letter.
  • Assist in setting target EPC price.
  • Assist in defining optimum EPC strategies working  coordination with CTO office for technical aspect.
  • Assist in defining optimum EPC contractors and subcontractors.
  • Assist in defining LD structure in coordination with CTO.
  • Review of EPC commercial proposals (versus industry benchmarks and OTS).
  • Manage commercial issues with EPC, Client, Lenders and Insurers.
  • Assist in bid issues preparation.

Assisting the Project Closing Process:

BESS Techno-Commercial Manager provides following tasks during the financial closing process as part of the project team (from bid till FC date)


  • Clarifications with Customer.
  • Project close out information.
  • Assist in LTA report, insurance, equity partner and other related stake holder.
  • Assist in Project Transfer to Asset and Portfolio Management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree will be considered a plus.

Minimum Experience:

  •  6 - 8 years’ intensive experience in the area of project development and contract negotiation for large EPC company in the field of BESS projects.
  • Strong knowledge on the techno commercial aspect of BESS in general is mandatory and key for the execution of this work. The knowledge shall come with the proven ability to identify the effect of the commercial proposal of each contractor according to ACWA Power in the overall costing and of the entire plant.
  • Expertise on optimization and BESS Syst simulation.
  • Extensive knowledge of and exposure to specific area and power industry is a basic pre-requisite with experience in competitive EPC contracting. Experience with IPP is considered as a plus.

Work with procurement teams in Dubai and Riyadh on the procurement process for ACWA Power projects and is responsible for executing procurement strategies to drive cost efficiency, enhance supplier relationships, and ensure the seamless supply of goods and services. This role requires a proactive and strategic approach to sourcing, contract management, risk mitigation, and supplier performance evaluation. This role involves working closely with internal stakeholders to identify procurement needs, conducting market analysis, and establishing supplier relationships to drive cost savings, innovation, and efficiency.

Qualifications

IT Engineer

Work Location: Shanghai, China

Responsibilities

IT System Maintenance:

  •  Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of IT infrastructure in renewable energy power plants, including servers, network devices, and storage equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and optimize system performance to ensure stability and high availability.

Network Management:

  • Monitor the operation of internal networks within power plants, troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure secure and reliable data transmission.
  • Configure and maintain VPNs, routers, firewalls, and other network security devices to ensure smooth and secure remote data exchange between power plants.

Data Management and Backup:

  • Manage the collection, organization, storage, and backup of operational and historical data to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Develop and execute regular data backup and recovery tests to mitigate the risk of data loss.

Application System Support:

  • Provide technical support for business-related applications (e.g., SCADA, ERP, monitoring systems) used in renewable energy power plants.
  • Assist business teams in resolving system issues and propose improvements.

Incident Response and Resolution:

  • Respond promptly to IT-related incidents, quickly identify issues, and restore services to ensure operational continuity.
  • Develop and refine IT emergency response plans to improve fault-handling efficiency and quality.

Technical Support and Training:

  • Provide necessary IT technical support and training for power plant operations teams to enhance user operational skills.
  • Prepare IT operation and maintenance documentation and user manuals to standardize daily workflows.

Security Management:

  • Conduct regular system and network security checks, patch vulnerabilities, and prevent cyberattacks and data breaches.
  • Ensure IT systems in power plants comply with relevant laws, regulations, and corporate security standards.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Windows/Linux server operation and maintenance with basic knowledge of networking (TCP/IP protocols, routing, switching, etc.)
  • Familiarity with common IT systems (e.g., virtualization technologies, database management, backup solutions) and their deployment/management.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; experience in the renewable energy sector is a plus.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to travel and work onsite at power plants as required.
